Carrying the Sun: Ra

An interesting trait of Kemetic beliefs revolves around what is called Zep Tepi, the journey and cycle of death and rebirth. In Druidry and Wicca we would see the God or Goddess descend and ascend according to seasons, with different Gods taking providence over holidays that follow the season. In Egyptian lore, Zep Tepi is the rise of Ra from the Underworld, reborn. During the day he lives out his life, and at the end, he dies and journeys to the Underworld where he fights Apophis the snake God. The rising of the sun the following day is proof that he defeated Apophis and the cycle repeats itself.

Every morning, I try to spend a few moments watching the sun rise and thinking of Ra and his trials and tribulations as he rises above to live again. To me, this is magic.

About Siofra |Nathifa|

A Druid and a Kemetic Pagan. I have studied Celtic Traditions, European Shamanism, the Fairy Faith, Native American Traditions, Wicca, Witchcraft and have explored New Age beliefs. I guess you could say I'm eclectic, but right now my focus is on Druidry and Kemetic Traditions. I am by no means, an expert in any of these interests. I am also a Bard in training.
